Macro Calculator

Turn a daily calorie target into grams of protein, carbohydrate, and fat using percentages that you choose. The tool checks that the three energy shares total 100%, making it useful for comparing macro plans on a consistent calorie basis. Protein and carbohydrate provide about 4 kcal per gram; fat provides about 9 kcal per gram. Each macro’s grams equal allocated calories divided by its energy-per-gram factor.

A familiar situation

Convert a chosen calorie split into approximate grams of protein, carbohydrates, and fat for meal planning.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter daily calorie target, protein share, carbohydrate share and the remaining inputs.
  2. Select Calculate to see the answer and its breakdown.
  3. Keep a scenario, change an input and compare the results.

Use consistent units and check the assumptions below before applying the result.

How macro is calculated

Protein and carbohydrate provide about 4 kcal per gram; fat provides about 9 kcal per gram. Each macro’s grams equal allocated calories divided by its energy-per-gram factor. For 2,000 kcal split 30% protein, 40% carbohydrate, and 30% fat, the estimates are 150 g, 200 g, and 66.7 g.

Protein/carbohydrate grams=allocated kcal/4; fat grams=allocated kcal/9.
A worked example

For 2,000 kcal split 30% protein, 40% carbohydrate, and 30% fat, the estimates are 150 g, 200 g, and 66.7 g.

Assumptions & useful context

The result depends on the values you enter and the method described above. Displayed numbers may be rounded; calculations use the unrounded values. Check that this model matches your situation before relying on it.

Health calculations are estimates for education. They cannot diagnose a condition or replace a clinician’s assessment. Individual needs vary, especially during pregnancy, illness and growth.

Frequently asked questions

Does this tell me which macro split is medically right for me?

No. Needs vary with health, training, preferences, and clinical advice.

Why must percentages add to 100?

The three shares are defined as a complete allocation of the calorie target.
