A familiar situation
Estimate a ramp’s missing side or angle from a known length and slope measurement.
How to use this calculator
- Enter known measurements, leg a, leg b or angle.
- Select Calculate to see the answer and its breakdown.
- Keep a scenario, change an input and compare the results.
Use consistent units and check the assumptions below before applying the result.
How right triangle is calculated
The acute angles sum to 90°. Side ratios follow sine, cosine, and tangent; with legs a,b, hypotenuse c=√(a²+b²). In the side-angle mode, the given leg is treated as opposite the entered angle; the second leg and hypotenuse are derived from the trigonometric ratios. A 3-4-5 right triangle has acute angles about 36.87° and 53.13°.
a²+b²=c²; sin(θ)=opposite/hypotenuse; acute angles sum to 90°.A 3-4-5 right triangle has acute angles about 36.87° and 53.13°.
Assumptions & useful context
The result depends on the values you enter and the method described above. Displayed numbers may be rounded; calculations use the unrounded values. Check that this model matches your situation before relying on it.
Frequently asked questions
Can both entered angles be acute angles?
This tool accepts one acute angle plus a side or two sides, not two redundant angles.
What if I enter a side and its opposite angle?
Select the supported side-angle mode and ensure the angle is between 0° and 90°.
